María Clara (Mariana Ochoa) and Carlos Raul (Alberto Casanova) are a young couple who decide to get married, but they have to postpone the wedding after Carlos Raul losses his job. He leaves his hometown and goes to the city with the illusion of finding a job and then return to marry Maria Clara. Maria Clara is sad because her boyfriend has to leave but she dreams of the day that he will be back to married her.

In the city Carlos Raul meets Ximena (Martha Cristiana): a woman who owns one of the most important hotel chains of the city. He starts working with Ximena. When Ximena begin to know Carlos Raul she likes him as a man. She gives him an important position in her business with the purpose of wining his heart. He starts a relationship with Ximena thinking only of himself. Carlos Raul overwhelmed with the wealth and what Ximena gives him stops communicating with Maria Clara. After the death of Maria Clara's mother, Angelica (Irene Arcila), Maria Clara decides to go to the city and reunite with Carlos Raul.

Maria Clara has no idea about what is happening with Carlos Raul and Ximena. She will suffer when she learns the truth and Carlos Raul will have to decide between the two women.
