Teresa (Angélica Rivera), better known as "Gaviota" and her mother Clarita Hernandez (Ana Martin) travel from Guadalajara, Jalisco, to "The Montalveña", propriety of Amador Montalvo (Joaquin Cordero) to work in the annual agave harvest.
In the hacienda, Amador was sick; his wife Pilar (Marta Roth), his son Felipe (Jorge Vargas) and his wife Constanza (Irma Lozano) are taking care of him. The others members of the family are out of the country: each of them is informed of Amador's health and all of them return to be with him. Before his death Amador request the overseer of the hacienda to keep Gaviota and Clarita working in the hacienda.
Amador passes away and during the religious ceremony, Rodrigo (Eduardo Yañez) and Gaviota meet and fall in love. Rodrigo has to go back to London to continue his studies but before he leaves, he and Gaviota consummate their love. Later Gaviota realizes that she is pregnant. She manages to find a way to travel overseas to see Rodrigo.
After many difficulties Gaviota finds the place where Rodrigo is: she sees him ahead on the other side of the street and runs to reach him but a car hits her in the middle of the street. Rodrigo sees the accident but he could not see what had happen.
After several months of recuperation and losing her unborn child Gaviota returns Mexico. She is motivated to work hard and become a successful woman. She starts working in Empresas Montalvo and eventually is promoted to an important position. After his fathers' death, Rodrigo returns to work in Empresas Montalvo as an executive; when he sees Gaviota, both of them realize that they are still in love.
Will Rodrigo and Gaviota vanquish the obstacles that separate them and reach their happiness?
