Casilda, her godmother has raised her since she was very young. She teaches moral values and a precarious education. Casilda passes away and Mari is left alone and her only support is Father Honorio (Tito Guizar) who asks Don Fernando (Ricardo Blume) one of his millionaire benefactors to take her in.

Once living in Don Fernando’s home, Maria is faced with the hatred of Don Fernando’s wife Victoria (Iran Eory) and his oldest son Luis Fernando (Fernando Colunga). Luis Fernando is a young irresponsible who tries to dominate Maria who he tries to tries to use her by dating her. At the end they both end up falling in love. To be happy Maria had to deal with her very powerful and influential rival Soraya (Itati Cantoran). Soraya would do just about anything to end up as Luis Fernando’s wife. Threw lays, manipulation and slander tries to get engaged to Luis Fernando, with the encouragement from Victoria. Maria lives great happiness when she marries Luis Fernando. Their happiness did not last long; Luis Fernando believes Maria is having an affair with his brother when he discovers Vladimir (Hector Soberon) giving Maria a hug. Luis Fernando leaves Maria and at the same time she finds out she is pregnant. When her husband’s asks for a divorce it drives her crazy and she escapes from their home. Maria has her son and she gives the baby away.

After Luis Fernando find out the truth he returns to find Maria in an insane asylum. Believing that their son had passed away, Luis Fernando adopts Tita (Ludwika Paleta) an orphan. Maria takes Tita as her daughter but does not give up hope in finding her son.

Several years pass and Maria and Luis Fernando have lived a somewhat happy life. Maria searches without hope trying to find her son. In time she finds her son in unusual circumstances. Tita and her son fall in love for each other and they suffer when they find out they are siblings; Luis Fernando and Maria find themselves having to tell Tita that she is adopted. Tita suffers when she finds out she is adopted but at the same time is happy because she can be with the love of her life. They get married and everyone lives happily ever after.
