This soap opera is set in colonial Mexico. Camila (Susana Gonzalez), Justo Darien's (Raymundo Capetillo) daughter was celebrating her engagement to Santiago (Sebastian Rulli), the blacksmith of the village of San Francisco. The employees of the tyrannical of the town Don Jorge Mancera y Ruiz (Juan Ferrara) interrupt the celebration; they hurt Santiago and take Camila to Don Gorge's mansion. Don Gorge couldn't force Camila to have sex with him because he was to drunk. With the promise that she would not say a thing of what occurred that night, he lets her go. Camila is then kidnapped, sold as a slave and taken to the island "La Mariana" to Don Timoteo de Salamanca (German Robles) house. While she is living there she encounters Timoteo's sister and Timoteo's blind daughter Lisabeta (Daniela Castro).
Don Timoteo teaches Camila about art, etiquette, making her an elegant woman of society. Camila missed her family and tried to escape but Don Timoteo finds her and brings her back to his home.
To prevent his nephew Fernando (Fernando Colunga), who is a pirate, from inherit his fortune Don Timoteo forces her to married him, which she does not want to. When Timoteo tries to consummate the marriage he suffers a heart attack and dies.
Camila inherit a great fortune, but she can't leave her new home because if she does she will become a slave forever. Lisabeta and Timoteo's sister vow that they will take Camila's fortune at all costs. Camila decide take advantage her liberty and her money, she returns home and discovers that Santiago and her sister Rita (Maite Embil) have got married. Rita has been obsessed with Santiago since she was young. Rita suffers since Camila's return, she is jealous of the relationship that her sister and her husband once had.
Camila buys a home in San Francisco. Santiago helps her fix some problems and which causes Rita to become jealous. They don't know what to say or do to help Rita feel better about the situation, knowing that they still love each other.
Ricardo and his cousin Lisabeta, who is in loves with him, go to San Francisco with the intension to take possession of Camila's fortune.
Ricardo's appearance has change a lot, he transformed from a pirate to a noble man: he doesn't want to be associated with Timoteo de Salamanca, so he uses another last name. When Ricardo arrives to San Francisco, he becomes Don Jorge friend. Don Jorge would like to see Fernando and his daughter Ursula together. With the intension to take Camila's fortune he begins to court her, but in the end he falls in love with her and that provoked the jealousy and revenge of Lisabeta.
Santiago becomes jealous of the relationship Camila and Ricardo have and with time discovers Ricardo's true identity and turns him in to the authorities. Camila discovers that she expecting a child while Ricardo is in prison. Her father and Santiago decide to hide her disgrace and take her to an undisclosed location. At the same time Ricardo is paying for his crimes he decides to escape and clear his name. In the process he is hurt but Camila is not aware of that. Rita at that time is happy; she has her husband and discovers that he is Don Jorge illegitimate son who he recognizes and gives him his name and a position in society.
One day while Rita and Ursula (Maya Mishalska) are riding horseback and Alberto (Jose Elias Moreno) appears, intentionally causing an accident that causes Rita death. Alberto does this so Santiago could freely marry his daughter Manuela (Anais). Manuela is in love with someone else and is unaware of her father's intentions.
Lisabeta believing that Ricardo has passed away marries Alberto. When she discovers that Ricardo was still alive, she decides to kidnap Camila and Ricardo's son, making them believe that the child is dead. She becomes the child's godmother making everyone believe that the child was an orphan. Ricardo discovers the truth and rescues his son. Camila and Ricardo get married and they live a happy life with their family.
